North-west — palaces and designers (1h30)

The north-west quarter of the medina, easier to breathe than the main souks: enter through Bab Doukkala, cross the Pasha's palace, then the Mouassine quarter — galleries, designer boutiques — and finish in the calm of the Jardin Secret. The ideal walk if you are staying near Doukkala, or for a second day.

   Bab Doukkala

   ≈10 min

   A great Almoravid gate on the north-west of the medina. This is often where cars and taxis enter from Guéliz — a classic drop-off point for the riads of the neighbourhood.

   Dar El Bacha — Musée des Confluences

   ≈40 min

   The former palace of the Pasha of Marrakech, with dazzling zellige and orange-tree patios. Hosts exhibitions on Morocco's cultures and a famous historic café.

   💡 The most photogenic zellige in the medina — and a historic café if the queue is not too long.

   Mouassine Fountain

   ≈10 min

   A 16th-century Saadian fountain and a useful landmark of the Mouassine quarter — the corner of art galleries and designer boutiques, calmer than the main souks.

4. 4

   Le Jardin Secret

   ≈30 min

   A restored palace-riad in the heart of the medina, with two gardens (exotic and Islamic) and a tower with a 360° view over the rooftops. A green, silent pause two minutes from the souks.
