In May and June 2026, three licensed Get Me! drivers logged 30 airport rides, with each sheet validated by a coordinator. Each entry documents: district, presence of touts, the two prices quoted by street taxis (highest and lowest), wait time logged, and traffic conditions.
Methodology
N=30 rides. Period: May–June 2026. 3 professional drivers, sheets validated by a coordinator. 23 rides medina, 7 Guéliz. Two prices logged per ride: medians and averages use the lowest quoted price. Euro conversion: €1 ≈ 10.7 MAD (Bank Al-Maghrib reference rate, late June 2026).
The official price vs the price you're actually quoted
At the arrivals exit, the Kech.Cab single desk, set up by ONDA in 2023, sells the ride at a fixed fare by destination. According to Moroccan press reports (January 2024), expect 100 to 160 dirhams by day depending on distance, excluding the desk fee; at night, the fare carries a 50% surcharge, i.e. 150 to 240 dirhams. The 5 scam patterns observed (by frequency)
Across the 30 logged rides, here is how scams distribute — from most frequent to rarest.
1. 1. "Parking" supplement after kiosk payment (13 of 30 rides)
The traveler pays the official Kech Cab ticket: at the desk, the ride is prepaid at a fixed fare by destination (Moroccan press, 2023). Once in the car, the driver demands a "parking supplement". Before paying, ask what this supplement covers, ticket in hand.
2. 2. Extra bill despite kiosk payment (6 of 30 rides)
Direct variant: the driver simply demands "one more bill" without justification. Often at the destination, leveraging the traveler's fatigue and desire to end the interaction.
3. 3. Multiple drivers swarming the customer (5 of 30 rides)
As soon as you exit the arrivals hall, multiple drivers approach simultaneously. Strategy: create stress and confusion to short-circuit the official Kech Cab queue. Best defense: walk straight to the kiosk without responding.
4. 4. "Luggage too large" supplement (3 of 30 rides)
The driver demands extra payment claiming the luggage is too bulky or heavy. No official tariff structure justifies this supplement.
5. 5. Pre-booked driver impersonation (1 of 30 rides, serious)
The driver pretends to be the one the customer pre-booked online and demands payment in advance, even though the traveler already paid the booking. Rare but documented.
Counter-intuitive finding: Guéliz is more expensive than the medina
Marrakech-Menara Airport is roughly 6 km from Guéliz and from the medina alike, according to our neighbourhood pages. At equal distance, you would expect the same taxi price. Our logs say otherwise: the lowest quoted price to Guéliz averages 336 MAD (7 rides) vs 304 MAD to the medina (23 rides). With so few rides to Guéliz, this is a signal, not proof.
Our drivers' hypothesis: business hotels and expat residences are concentrated in Guéliz and are perceived as a wealthier clientele. Touts adjust their quote based on assumed traveler profile, not on kilometers.

Whether you stay in the medina or in Guéliz, the Get Me! pre-paid price stays at €15, and the Kech.Cab desk applies a fixed fare by distance. Only street prices inflate based on your presumed destination.
5 rules to avoid overpaying
- Do not respond to touts outside the arrivals hall. Walk firmly, eye contact, straight to your chosen option.
- If using Kech Cab: pay at the booth (inside the hall, on the left as you exit baggage claim) BEFORE getting in the car. If you are asked for a supplement afterward, ask what it covers before paying.
- If taking a street taxi: agree on the exact price BEFORE putting luggage in the trunk. Once luggage is loaded, you have lost negotiating leverage.
- Always know the day's MAD/EUR rate (€1 ≈ 10.7 MAD in late June 2026, Bank Al-Maghrib reference rate). If a driver quotes in euros, convert it to dirhams and compare it with the desk fare before agreeing.
- With pre-booked private: the driver holds a sign with your name. Check the sign. Ask for confirmation of your riad or hotel name. Any driver who cannot confirm is not yours.
