Landing at Marrakech-Menara (RAK) means going through the same steps as every other passenger, in the same order: disembarking, passport control, baggage claim, customs, arrivals hall. None of them is complicated. Only one asks you for a real decision, with time and money at stake: the last one, when you need to get into town, even though it is close, roughly 6 km from both the medina and Guéliz.
This guide follows the arrival step by step. For the formalities, it sticks to what is stable: terminal layouts change, and we would rather not send you to a counter that has moved. For the exit, it relies on 30 rides logged by our drivers in May–June 2026. It should be useful whether you book with us or not.
The essentials in 30 seconds
Disembarking, passports, baggage, customs: these steps are the same for everyone, and you have almost no control over them. Everything plays out at the hall exit, where our drivers saw touts on 30 rides out of 30 (May–June 2026). Choose your transport before you land, keep your address offline, and follow no one.
The arrival at a glance
| Step | What happens | The right reflex |
|---|---|---|
| Disembarking | You leave the aircraft and reach the terminal. | Passport and phone within reach. |
| Passport control | Your passport is checked and your entry recorded; questions about your stay are possible. | Accommodation address saved offline. |
| Baggage claim | Checked luggage is delivered. | Missing or damaged bag: report it before leaving the area. |
| Customs | Last check; your bags may be inspected. | Unusual gear? Rules checked before departure. |
| Arrivals hall | Families, drivers with name signs, touts. | Touts present on 30 rides out of 30: follow no one. |
| Transport into town | Several options, detailed below. | Chosen before landing, not in the hall. |
Before you land: what to sort out at home
Whatever you do not settle before boarding, you will settle in the worst possible place: standing in the hall, tired, surrounded by people who have an interest in you deciding fast.
- The entry requirements for your nationality (passport validity, any visa), checked with official sources.
- Your accommodation's exact address, phone number and neighbourhood, saved offline: you will need them at passport control and in the car.
- Your transport into town, chosen and ideally booked, with your flight number sent to whoever is meeting you.
- A way to pay for the option you chose, and a way to get online if you are counting on your phone to reach a driver or your riad.
Passports, baggage, customs: the formalities
You leave the aircraft, reach the terminal, then passport control: border police check your document, record your entry and may ask about the purpose of your stay or your address. Our logs do not measure this queue, so we publish no duration for it. The useful reflex lies elsewhere: give whoever is meeting you your flight number rather than a time, so they follow the actual landing.
At baggage claim, a missing or damaged suitcase is reported before you leave the delivery area; keep the paperwork you are given. Use the wait at the belt to check that your transport is confirmed: it is the last calm moment before the exit.
Then customs. With nothing in particular to declare, you walk through, although your bags may be inspected. Unusual gear (a drone, professional equipment, a large sum in cash): look up Moroccan customs rules before you leave, not in front of the officer.
Walking out of the hall: the only moment that really matters
Past customs, you enter the arrivals hall: families waiting, transfer drivers holding signs, and men offering a taxi. Our drivers logged 30 rides in May–June 2026: touts were present on 30 rides out of 30. Assume they will be there.
Their most unsettling technique is collective: on 5 rides out of 30, several drivers swarmed the traveller at once. The aim is to get you to decide before you reach the option you planned. The counter works: do not stop, do not negotiate while walking, and do not follow anyone offering to “show” you a desk or a car.
The fake driver
Rarer, but more serious: in our 30 logged rides, a driver posed as the transfer the traveller had pre-booked, on 1 ride out of 30. A “yes, that's me” proves nothing. Your driver holds a sign with your name and can name your accommodation; with Get Me!, the driver's name and phone number are emailed to you before your trip.
Getting into town: the options and what we logged
This table contains only our own logs and our price. Third-party amounts (Kech.Cab desk) and the information on the bus and Uber are quoted further down, with their source and date.
| Option | When do you decide? | What our drivers logged |
|---|---|---|
| Pre-booked transfer (Get Me!: €15 one-way, €27 return, per vehicle) | Before your flight, online | A driver posed as the pre-booked transfer: 1 ride out of 30 |
| Kech.Cab desk | On the spot, at the exit | After the desk ticket, a “parking” supplement requested on 13 rides out of 30, an extra bill demanded on 6 rides out of 30 (all rides combined) |
| Street taxi | On the spot, facing the drivers | Lowest quoted price: median 300 MAD, 250 to 400 MAD depending on the ride, above €15 (≈ 160 MAD) on 30 rides out of 30 |
The pre-booked transfer
This is the option that moves the decision to before your flight. With Get Me!, it costs €15 one-way and €27 return per vehicle, up to 6 passengers (beyond that, one more vehicle for every 6 passengers), paid online, the same price day and night. The driver waits in the arrivals hall with a sign bearing your name and tracks your flight in real time, so pickup follows the actual landing. The flip side: you have to plan ahead, and check at the exit that this really is your driver.
The Kech.Cab desk
At the arrivals exit, the Kech.Cab single desk, set up by ONDA in 2023, sells the ride at a fixed fare by destination. According to Moroccan press reports (January 2024), expect 100 to 160 dirhams by day depending on distance, excluding the desk fee. At night, Marrakech airport taxi fares carry a 50% surcharge, i.e. 150 to 240 dirhams depending on distance, excluding the desk fee (Moroccan press, January 2024). At the Kech.Cab desk, the ride is prepaid by card or in cash (Moroccan press, 2023).
If you have booked nothing, this is the best option on the spot: no haggling on the pavement. Our logs do, however, show friction between the desk and the car: across all rides, a “parking” supplement was requested after the desk ticket on 13 rides out of 30, and an extra bill was demanded despite payment at the desk on 6 rides out of 30.
The street taxi
It is the default option when you walk out without a plan, and the one our logs document best. Across 30 rides logged by our drivers in May–June 2026, the lowest price quoted by street taxis had a median of 300 MAD (≈ €28), ranging from 250 to 400 MAD depending on the ride. Counting every quoted price, the lowest and the highest of each ride, the range runs from 250 to 600 MAD; 600 MAD was logged on 2 rides. The lowest quoted price was above €15 (≈ 160 MAD) on 30 rides out of 30. For these conversions: €1 ≈ 10.7 MAD (Bank Al-Maghrib reference rate, late June 2026).
Price is not the only cost. Across all rides, the time spent at the airport before leaving by taxi had a median of 40 min (39.3 min on average), from 10 to 130 min depending on the ride, and it depends mostly on the negotiation.
The bus and Uber
According to LesEco (August 2026), Marrakech's bus network changed operator in December 2025 and its lines were redesigned: check the airport service and its fare locally. Our logs do not cover this option. A bus drops you at a stop, not at your door: with suitcases or for a riad in the medina, it is rarely the simplest choice.
According to Uber's announcement, Uber has been available in Marrakech since 27 November 2025 (UberX and UberXL, licensed vehicles). For the airport, check what the app offers when you land. Our 30 rides do not cover this case either: if you are counting on the app, make sure you are online as soon as you leave the aircraft, and keep a fallback option.

Book my transferThe mistakes that cost you at the exit
1. Loading your bags before the price is fixed
With a street taxi, agree the price before the suitcase goes in the boot. After that, you are negotiating from a position of weakness.
2. Paying a supplement without asking what it covers
Ticket paid at the desk, then “parking” requested or an extra bill demanded at the car: the pattern described above. Ticket in hand, ask first what the supplement covers.
3. Giving in to the “luggage too large” surcharge
Demanded on 3 rides out of 30 in our logs, with no fare basis whatsoever. Your suitcase did not grow between the belt and the boot.
The last stretch: to your door
In the medina, many riads open onto lanes that cars cannot enter: the vehicle stops at the closest accessible point and you walk the rest. To avoid hunting for your door, suitcase in hand, escorted by a self-appointed guide, ask your riad where that point is and whether someone can meet you there. In Guéliz or the Hivernage, the issue rarely comes up.
Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to get out of Marrakech airport?
Our logs do not measure passport control or baggage delivery separately, so we publish no duration for those steps. They do measure the time spent at the airport before leaving by taxi: median 40 min, 39.3 min on average, from 10 to 130 min depending on the ride (30 rides logged by our drivers, May–June 2026). That spread comes mostly from the negotiation.
Do you need dirhams when you land in Marrakech?
Not necessarily to leave the airport. At the Kech.Cab desk, the ride is prepaid by card or in cash (Moroccan press, 2023). With a transfer paid online before your flight, as with Get Me!, there is nothing to pay on arrival. With a street taxi, bring cash and fix the price before your bags are loaded. A few dirhams remain useful from your first hours.
How do you recognise your transfer driver at the exit?
Check the sign with your name, ask the driver to name your accommodation, and compare their name and phone number with those you received before the trip (with Get Me!, by email). A simple “yes, that's me” is not enough: a driver posed as the pre-booked transfer on 1 ride out of 30 (logs from our drivers, May–June 2026).
How much do street taxis ask at Marrakech airport?
Across our 30 rides logged in May–June 2026, the lowest price quoted by street taxis had a median of 300 MAD (≈ €28), ranging from 250 to 400 MAD depending on the ride. Counting every quoted price, the range runs from 250 to 600 MAD. That lowest price was above €15 on 30 rides out of 30, and its median is nearly double a €15 Get Me! transfer.
Our take
Arriving in Marrakech is not difficult. The formalities are those of any international airport, and you have almost no control over them. What separates a smooth arrival from a draining one comes down to a single decision, how you leave the airport, and above all to where you make it: at home, it costs only its price; in the hall, you pay for it in haggling, time and sometimes supplements.
If you have booked nothing, the Kech.Cab desk remains the best choice on the spot, ticket in hand. Landing at night, with children, on a first trip or simply tired: book ahead, with us or anyone else; what matters is that the decision is made before you land. That is what we sell, and it is also what we would tell a friend.
